Researchers: Snapchat, Instagram adverse to mental health
young minds are hampered by the excess uses of social media
The Royal Society for Public Health revealed a breaking news about the effect of social media on young people’s health. In UK RSPH recently have examined on some young fellows about their mental state and they found some shocking fact about that.
In 21 st century , social media is like the heart of everyone where all human including the young ones are using the social media, where the attractive platforms are just over spreading our life like an invisible blanket; and we are less aware about that.
In this globalised world it is obvious, though its our duty to maintain the balance of realty and vertuality . In that case RSPH have done a great job for the seek of our future generation.
A research by RSPH claimed that Instagram and Snapchat are the most harmful to young people’s mental health and wellbeing which is appearing as a negative impact for the mankind , where as another study from a media platform claiming that Youtube had the most positive effect.
RSPH in the UK examined the positive and the negative effects of social media on young people’s health from a vast community. Almost 1,500(age 14-24) people were present on that survey where researcher found some abnormal activities to the young ones. The survey asked them to score how each of the social media platforms they use impacts upon 14 health and wellbeing-related issues lead the researchers to a conclusion about the young ones’ depression, anxiety and loneliness.
Popular platforms got an avg. score according to survey where youtube was leading and after that followed by Twitter and Facebook. Snapchat and Instagram secure the lowest rank which indicating the side effects.
“Social media has been described as more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol , and is now so entrenched in the lives of young people that it is no longer possible to ignore it when talking about young people’s mental health issues.”said by Chief Executive at RSPH Shirley Cramer.
She added “It is important that we have checks and balances in place to make social media less of a wild west when it comes to young people’s mental health and wellbeing”.
“For young people , using media and digital technologies as a tool to help with mental health make sense for many reasons. It might help improve psycho-education, increase self awareness of mental health and act as a preventative measure. Young people sometimes feel more comfortable talking about personal issues online,” Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge in the UK, Becky Inkster said.
Though the managements of Snapchat and Instagram are not interest about this matter ; from their part its just a research work and not being so much worried about that.
As the report published it is our responsibility to get rid of this problem and support our young generation for a greater future.
We have to aware them about the black side of excess use of social media.
Our future is in our hand. Its our duty to lead our young ones. Stay safe.
